F/W: Christian Cota, Rachel Zoe

Day Three New York Fashion Week: Sat., February 11, 2012 ©ourtesy Ann Caruso

Christian Cota went back to his Mexican roots and used Aztec prints, silks, floral embroideries, leather and fur for an incredibly strong presentation that is his best, yet.

Rachel Zoe best known as a celebrity stylist, had her second fashion show this season. She did what she knows best by reinventing the decade of fashion she goes “bananas” over.  She drew inspiration from rock’n'roll glamour of the late ’60s from fashion icons Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid Host to Talent, LEANDRO CANO

Dramatic and eccentric, two adjectives that we hardly ever get to use when it comes to the already proven fashion designers at Madrid’s Fashion Week, but those are the words that describe the best Leandro Cano’s Haute Couture creations. Using natural materials such as wool and leather he constructed a collection that distorts the female body but somehow he managed to create an amazing theatrically feminine fashion show.  The textures Cano composed show his sense and ability of creating an astonishing couture pieces of clothes. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012 fashion show in Madrid introduces Basque young designer Ixone Elzo, inspired by the wardrobes of the aristocracy.

At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid Spain, the talented Spanish Designer IXONE ELZO, presented a marvelous and excellently well structured collection, therefore making his mark in the fashion industry. Predominantly green, white and red, she created male clothes that looked like as if they were inspired from another era, but perfectly wearable and contemporary suitable. Formulated for modern and elegant men with high sense of aesthetics with small details that somehow reminded me of a re-interpretation of Harlequin’s clothes at fashion week. MB/FW Stockholm Menswear

©February 5, 2012 by Daniel Bjƶrk
The fashion circus is over for this time as you know having read Sabrina’s post from yesterday and as hectic as they are (especially if you are, as I was, reviewing some of the shows over at Bon.se and trying to get the review up within two hours) they are also great fun. In many ways Sweden’s men are the true fashionistas of Sweden, so a proper look at what was happening over the three days that go under the name of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stockholm needs to include the biggest fashion street style trends for male consumers. On the first day of the week, at Filippa K Man, designer Morgan Sundberg explained to me that the turtle neck was back. His words were to be proven true in almost every menswear show over the following days and worn in any way possible from chunky, as at Whyred and Boomerang, to thin, as at Ubi Sunt, or in between: Oscar Jacobson streetstyle. – - read more

Paris: Disco inferno! 70s Style.

Divas Chaka Kahn, Grace Jones and Gloria Gaynor take the stage at Etam’s Paris Fashion Week show

The 70s are back! Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones and Chaka Khan performed during Etam’s Paris Fashion Week show tonight.

Anyone walking into the Beaux-Arts de Paris might have assumed they had stepped back in time tonight. Though fashion house Etam was hosting their Spring/Summer 2012 show, it was the 70s-era disco queens onstage who captured the evening’s spotlight tonight. Soul divas Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones and Chaka Kahn all wore their glittery best to perform at the Paris Fashion Week show. Queen of Disco, ‘I Will Survive’ singer Gaynor, 63, still looked fabulous in a sparkling brown gown. Grace Jones looked every inch the Andy Warhol muse she was in a revealing black bodysuit, mid-calf length boots and a tuxedo jacket. Paris fashion week with Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge and the Pointer Sisters. Heat be still! Haute couture at fashion house Etam was rawkin’ last night. Hopefully New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week fashion designers will make some attempt to match this presentation with their fashion shows. The fashion industry with its street style, has arrived. 70s disco will live on. – - more on this Hot Show

John Varvatos Fall/Winter 2012

Urban Rock–Designer John Varvatos spins a tale of the streets and rock for the fall/winter 2012 season in his runway show. Male Models were Embodying a certain harshness in comparison to last season’s romantic laments, Varvatos taps into an element of youth. Bringing together garments in an almost reckless fashion, the mood is relaxed and the results more exciting. While laceless boots barely come to a close, oversize outerwear in various hues of gray bring comfort to knits as well as other pieces, tattered and stained. Featuring tall men in a wardrobe that possesses the potential to be both tidy and fantastically disheveled, John Varvatos dismisses the aspect of age for a collection that evolves with a little smarts in Milan fashion.  – - more Pics | ©ourtesy of ‘theFashionisto.com

Renaissance Fashion & Fencing

Partial Armour, Italian, C.1570-90. ©Permission
LONDON.- Witness the cutting edge of fashion as you’ve never seen it before! This exhibition tells the untold story of this fascinating and little known area of Renais- sance art: revealing the fantastically skilled artistry behind the rapier; at once a weapon, fashion item, and rich jewellery object; representing the rise of a new and upwardly mobile middle class, sixteenth-century con- cepts of masculinity and the emergence of the duel of honour. Summer 2012 represents the perfect opportunity to investigate the historical and social development of the ancient art of sword-fighting. The modern sport of fencing is one of the nine original Olympic sports but is also a piece of a much older story which began with the Renais- sance fashion for carrying and fighting with swords in everyday life. A man of means in the sixteenth century went nowhere without his sword, and was always prepared to use it. – - Read more

Halston Film, ‘But This Time It’ll Be Good’

Story written By @ Stylecaster.com
We've been gearing up for this holiday for a while it seems and now that it's just around the corner, we can almost smell mom's home-cooked dinner and feel the warmth of our fuzzy flannels. With that in mind, we made a solid list of movies we plan on enjoying for solid hours (let's be honest – days) that we haven't had a chance to watch just yet. In our quest to ensure we have an ample veg-out sesh, we stumbled upon several movies that have yet to be released (Batman anyone?!) but one got us super excited: Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston. No, this isn't about a 90's nightclub -- we have Limelight for that - this documentary focuses on the life, tragedy, and talent of the man behind Halston. Finally! Film-maker Whitney Sudler-Smith interviews Halston's muses, friends, and clients in this film that depicts the designer's career starting as a hat maker at Bergdorf Goodman, through the glitter-speckled nights at Studio 54 and ultimately, selling his namesake to the likes of JC Penney, decades before any other brand caught onto the diffusion line trend. We’ve been gearing up for this holiday for a while it seems and now that it’s just around the corner, we can almost smell mom’s home-cooked dinner and feel the warmth of our fuzzy flannels.
