PARIS: Gareth Pugh Spring/Summer 2014

What can we say? Well, I’ll just go ahead and say it. FAN-TAB-U-LUST to Mr. Pugh! I simply consider this collection to be one of the most ‘original’ set of looks to date. Day, Evening & Formal wear, all put together. Go Gareth !!
gpBack in 2005, Gareth Pugh was living in a squat in London when all the important UK fashion magazines attached themselves to him like a Fred Perry-clad tumor. Fresh out of fashion school and an internship with Rick Owens, he was soon a style-page wank fantasy, representative of the type of hijinks English fashion clamors for. It was all justified. Gareth’s first shows featured inflatable outfits and light-strewn garments. Everyone in attendance over the age of 30 offered mealy-mouthed praise—like it was all very well and fun and diverting but ultimately fey and immature. Attendees under the age of 25, however, cheered the models and clothes down the runway, feeling like somebody had finally reinvented fashion for the 21st century and rescued us all from retro regurgitation. Six years on, fashion sites are overflowing with photos of androgynous kids addicted to black who look just like Pugh. His line garners the type of attention and praise usually reserved for the vaunted and dusty old guard. He shows annually in Paris and New York, working and hanging out with all the ritziest fashion people, like Karl Lagerfeld and Mario Testino. We’ve known him for a while, though, so we persuaded him to take a few minutes for the following little chat..Read on : View more Gareth’s Collection

PARIS F/W Spring 2014 starts today

©ourtesy of FirstComesFashion & Vogue.co.uk
paris fashion weekPARIS FASHION WEEK starts today – an epic nine-day-long marathon that ends next Wednesday. It’s the mother of all fashion capitals, the home of fashion’s biggest and oldest names, from Chanel and Dior to Balenciaga and Givenchy. If energy levels are beginning to wane among the fashion press, who have now been on the move for three weeks, Paris is always certain to inject a new verve. –> Instagrams of #PFW

The action gets underway today with Anthony Vaccarello – who is rumoured to be Versus’s next collaborator. His sexy, skin-tight dresses are a given though, and we look forward to seeing them worn by his model muse, Karlie Kloss, who is a regular on his catwalk. Wednesday’s big show is Rochas and all eyes will be on creative director Marco Zanini, who is rumoured to be leaving for recently-revived fashion house Schiaparelli

China-Born, Paris-Based Designers Spotlight Heritage At Paris Couture Fashion Week

©ourtesy of JingDaily By
yiqing-yin-015This year’s Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2013-2014 saw a range of designers from a diverse range of backgrounds presenting their creations on the runway. Among them were China-born emerging designers Laurence Xu and Yiqing Yin, both of whom utilize traditional Chinese elements in their couture lines to create their own distinct aesthetics. Making his mark on the French fashion world, Xu held his first ever haute couture fashion show at Pavillon Cambon. Themed Xiuqiu, which literally means “embroidered ball” in Chinese, the show seamlessly integrated Chinese style and Western elements. As Women’s Wear Daily reported, Xu paraded highly embellished,

Gaultier claws back on top at Fashion Week. Valentino is dazzled. Bravo….!

“It’s all cinema, it’s all from film,” said Jean Paul Gaultier, summing up haute couture. Paris’ enfant terrible seemed to have a point, speaking on the last day of fall-winter shows that have seen spectators transported from apocalyptic opera houses to the circus and flung across the four corners of the globe. Gaultier’s feline-infused couture collection – Wednesday’s highlight – took for inspiration Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini and “The Pink Panther.” The references merged with theatrical panache to produce once of his best shows in seasons. But the cinema continued throughout Wednesday. In Valentino’s encyclopedic show, continents and eras were merged and had Baz Luhrmann in delight.” Haute couture, like cinema, is unreal. It’s theatre – a romantic aspiration that’s more beautiful, more extraordinary than reality,” said the burlesque “Moulin Rouge” director who sat on the coveted front row.

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER

With a delicious purr, Gaultier pounced back into top form with a feisty couture collection, proving that despite a couple of off seasons, he still has a lot of tricks up his embroidered sleeve. This fall-winter’s muse was the female panther, which inspired a slew of fresh ideas, including plenty of new ways to wear leopard and how to dress in feathers to look like a cat. If it sounds eccentric, it was. Leopard print featured cheekily on tights below one stylish all-black crepe dress, and there were several incredible couture coats. At first glance they looked like fur but were made entirely of feathers, speckled like a big cat pelt and with white feathers at the edges to resemble skin. Gaultier, ever the showman, ensured the wackiness infused the show’s presentation as well. Forty-three looks filed by to the infectious theme of “The Pink Panther,” showcased on models who clawed as they walked. Guests looked on from stalls divided into lionesses, panthers, lynx and leopards. Sometimes they applauded, sometimes they simply laughed. But aside from all the fun, there was some serious couture at work here. –

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer

British designer Kim Jones drew from classic American imagery for his Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2014 collection, which ranged from patterned bandanas and khaki parkas covered in travel patches to preppy sportswear and 1920s-esque evening suits. “This was the American road trip, just enjoying and celebrating Americana from NASA through to the traditional things such as bandanas,” he said, speaking backstage. Silhouettes were typically well-tailored and masculine which, while sophisticated, left few creative surprises, but one piece that certainly caught the eye of the fashion crowd was a retro black silk jacket featuring the iconic LV monogram. Take a look below.

Coco CHANEL Best Quotes

Endlessly Quotable Chanel

Coco Chanel once said, “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself,” adding, after a beat, “Aloud.” The legendary fashion designer did exactly that for most of her life, which meant that she became not only one of the world’s strongest forces in fashion, but also one of its most quoted citizens. In honor of CHANEL Aug. 19 birthday, here’s a look back at our favorite of Coco’s many declarations.

History About designer CHANEL from Wikipedia: Gabrielle “Coco” Bonheur Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971) was a French fashion designer and founder of the Chanel brand. She was the only fashion designer to be named on Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century. Along with Paul Poiret, Chanel is credited with liberating women from the constraints of the corseted silhouette and popularizing the acceptance of a sportive, casual chic as the feminine standard in the post-World War I era. A prolific fashion creator, Chanel’s influence Continue reading

Designers Hermes and Dior play safe

A model wears a creation by French fashion designer Veronique Nichanian as part of the Men’s Spring-Summer 2013 collection, for Fashion Week, in Paris, France, Saturday, June 30, 2012.

PARIS — Day Four of Paris menswear designers had one overriding message by Paris menswear designers from Dior Homme to Kenzo: – We’re tastefully playing it safe. Fashion collections at this time of year are often about anticipating summer and celebrating color. But in Saturday’s strong line-up of Paris menswear week, shows there was a clear emphasis on hues that tended towards the muted and soft. Subtle shows from designers Kenzo and Hermes featured wide-ranging and inventive palettes, but it was tonal balance that was the key. Dior homme dazzling colors, prominently in previous seasons, appeared only momentarily: like the red splashes in Kris Van Assche’s Dior Homme show. Fashion Week is a seasonal industry. But unlike in the natural world, fashion’s seasons move with the times. Fashion Designers used to put clothes from our spring and summer collections into the stores when the weather got warm, but now we put them into stores in the middle of winter. And we put winter clothes into stores in the middle of summer. This, I believe, is just symptomatic of society at large. Everything has sped up. People have shorter concentration spans and want to see something new on a regular basis. The stores have to give their Continue reading

Party Show Fashion Week with Illustrator Nicolas Tavitian

Fashion Week Paris WORLD EXCLUSIVE for Style Voyeur, a conversation with Parisian Illustrator, Nicolas Tavitian – as he takes us inside a Paris Fashion Week show!
Above & Below: Lanvin Fall/Winter 2012 show
At Paris Fashion Week we asked Nicolas, you were on Style Voyeur back in 2010 (see here), how did you get to know Style Voyeur? I don’t remember anymore how I got to know Style Voyeur. I can’t help thinking it is my curiosity which drove me to your blog. But I can still remember what I thought about your pictures and your words the first time I glanced at them, which is more important. I was intrigued because I found that the people you photographed had a very relaxed attitude, looking satisfied and happy to be there, happy to show at fashion week, what they did or their outfits. It was like pictures taken during a party, not during what could be considered in Paris as a working moment. It was cooler. It told me something about Perth but also something about the Paris show.
This is a major fashion week scoop for me, one that I am very blessed to share with my readers, how is it that you're able to give StyleVoyeur such an EXCLUSIVE? I Read more…

Allude: Looking back on 2009, one can considerably reminisce upon German designer Andrea Karg’s beautiful looks on the runway during New York Fashion Week collection. Fast forward to 2012, designer Karg takes her aptitude and flair under the luminous fashion spotlight in Paris at the Grand Palais. The brand, founded in 1993, is highly recognized for its beautifully soft materials of cashmere and silks. The main material Allude revolves around is cashmere, used to create her first creation almost twenty years ago: a V-neck pullover designed in 15 different shades. The first piece having gone down in Allude’s history, the same soft material persists two decades later Read more…

Basil Soda: The famous Hôtel Ritz located at the Place Vendôme in Paris was a spectacular place to welcome designer Basil Soda’s chic new collection, in a simple and intimate presentation. The prestigious venue, Salons d’Été, permitted the spectators to walk around the room and dissect details and forms that each piece had to offer. The collection Ensembles were elegantly surrounded by open box-like structures as the luxurious chandeliers’ light gleamed upon each look, highlighting their taste and fragile appearances. From the Lebanese designer haute couture to his ready-to-wear collections, Soda certainly creates feminine designs with completely flawless features, almost reflecting a futuristic woman. His looks are red carpet-worthy, with amazing cuts, shapes and vividly flirtatious colors that accentuate the wearer’s curves.

Fashion Week Toronto: After leaving Montreal for Paris six years years ago to launch his eponymous couture collection label, designer Rad Hourani is heading back to Canada on Friday to make his Canadian fashion week runway debut with his fifth collection of ready-to-wear line RAD at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week. As part of the runway presentation, Hourani will also debut his new short film Five Years of Rad Hourani as the show’s opener, documenting designer Rad Hourani inspirations as he celebrates his fifth year in the cutthroat industry. “I’m inspired by the idea of creating something that can’t be defined by a limited category and things that have no reference from the past,” says the Jordan-born Rad Hourani, who moved to Montreal at 16 before leaving for Paris in Read more…

Paris fashion show hosted by Kanye West ‘ghastly’

By LIZ JONES @ Dailymail.co.uk
Paris fashion press on Tuesday got a shock from Kanye West. The fashion writers, who hailed this Fall 2012 fashion show collection as ‘much improved’ and a ‘concise statement’ probably don’t even know what astrakhan. Kanye West used furs liberally in his designs. Let me tell you about this most ghastly of ‘fabrics’. Astrakhan is the fur of an unborn lamb. Yes, a foetus. The sheep is slaughtered, and the unborn lamb is ripped from her womb, its coat still curly and unformed. (Did you also know that lambswool is most commonly taken from the backs of just slaughtered lambs? What did you think they did: used a little pink comb?)
Ghastly and cruel? A model wears am astrakhan top under a bizarre fur arm-warmerGhastly and cruel? A model a fur coat at the Kanye West show in Paris
Ghastly: Astrakhan, the ‘fabric’ used to create the vest, left, is made from the fetuses of lambs torn from their mother’s wombs. Kanye West’s gratuitous use of fur in his fashion show was likely sponsored by the U.S. fur industry, says Liz about Kanye West use of crocodile skin, and fox fur for bags, back packs and huge arm warmers all presented in the fashion show. Even his view of women fashion seems dubious and strangely out of date, given so much skin tight leather, and bondage whips presented in the fashion collection. And, while much is being made at the moment about the fact fashion models work so hard for often so little money (viz, the story that Marc Jacobs doesn’t always pay his Paris runway models, given the prestige heaped upon them for wearing his polka dot proms), I wonder why Arizona Muse, Vogue cover girl and one of the world’s best paid mannequins, feels the need to wear so much white fur to earn a another crust, which she surely doesn’t eat anyway.  Okay, so the reason the rapper used so much fur, so many fetishes, so much ‘exotic’ skin (crocodiles routinely pole-axed, take many hours to die)?
Surely she doesn't need the money? Arizona Muse was draped in white fur at the Paris showJourdan Dunn walked in the show, which saw skins from crocodile and other exotic creatures used to create dresses and other garments

Fashion Fall 2012 Paris fizzling

Making Magic at Saint Laurent | Balenciaga: Geeks and Spies | Rochas: Stonewear | French Laundry | Town and Country From Pedro Lourenço |
Paris & London fashion seems to be talking about three-dimensional fashion, and the future. Tonight, at Salle Wagram, the same place where Alexander McQueen staged his dance-marathon collection, his successor, Sarah Burton, gave a magical rendering of both. The show started calmly with snowy white bell-shape coat dresses and laser-cut calf skin, resembling lace. All the models wore helmet like white-blond wigs, their eyes shielded by visors. Then Ms. Burton turned up the volume, first with feathery and fur coats Read more…
