Marc Jacobs & How Dark is Back

“Just LOVE this ad campaign”

marc-jacobs 00

On Friday the 13th it was all about gory darkness. After all, who said that Spring is all about light, fluidity and ethereal fabrics? For SS2014, Marc Jacobs message sounded loud and clear: Fuck Spring! His mood was irreverent punk meets embroidery winter fantasy, chanelled through his rebel wig peroxide blondes (Cara Delevigne, Sky Ferreira, Lily McNemany and more). His mood (which is flirting with the doom & gloom of the day) is clearly mirrored into his collection for yet another season (after all last time he was refusing to get out of his pajamas).
Undoubtedly, there were pieces that will still make the cut, as the above dresses can perfectly coexist with Muiccia’s take on dark tropicana. And with the given weather condition changes that won’t give it a rest, something tells me that fashion afficionados will be into those outfits in no time. The only thing left to see is what he’s going to show on the Louis Vuitton show end of month.

Interview with Vita Gottlieb

Vita Gottlieb funded her homonym womenswear label in 2011 and she was a finalist at the London Fashion Fringe in 2012. Behind Vita’s creations there are not only hints from different cultures, they also tell a story and create an atmosphere. The designer mixes patterns and fabrics to create clothes that humor the woman’s body and are both fashionable and comfortable.

When was the label founded? Vita Gottlieb: The label was founded in early 2012 and launched at London Fashion Week in September.
Your works do not look European, there are details that hint to other cultures. Where do you get them from? - -  Continue reading

CHLOE Coats from London

©ourtesy of Learner Londoner

Not surprisingly, the British weather has been entirely unpredictable this year.  Although it’s sweltering this week, last week I was tracking down a pair of winter ankle boots. So I’m going to continue crafting the perfect winter wardrobe and pouring through the R-T-W AW12 shows (with the aid of my trusty Elle Collections Magazine). Meet Chloe, or perhaps her coats.  Clare Waight Keller’s second show, was a safe success, appealing to the typical ‘Chloe Girl’ but not pushing any boundaries or generating the impact that Sarah Burton has in her first few terms in Alexander McQueen. What better way to pull yourself out of the winter blues than with a coat in Chloe’s infamous neutral pastel shades. I’m holding out for the high street’s take on these marvels. If anyone knows where I can find a coat similar to this one, I would be forever grateful for a heads up!

New York 2012/2013 Fashion Week: The Winter Collection by New York based designer, Marc Jacobs was really … Crazy! It was like 18-17th century fashion mixed with 21st century street style! This fashion week show hosted lots of colors, interesting patterns and some funny looking heels. And the best of all were the too big sized hats made out of fur or other materials. It is worth to mention that the coats that are presented will be the most hottest pieces for winter. Bohemian story through the New York designer Marc Jacobs, who presented his latest collection autumn / winter 2012-2013 in the last Fashion Week in New York.

Here’s a picture taken by Ben of VanStreet – thought I’d post it up. Kind of caught me off guard when Ben approached me and asked to take a photo of my outfit. I was just taking a fifteen minute breather outside of the store when he approached me. I obviously don’t dress any different from my work life. It was also the first day I wore my new Patrik Ervell jacket out. Got it for 70% off, what a steal! It’s a ladies baseball jacket – the body is cotton, the collar, base and cuff are silk. I’m also loving the japanese-esque dragonfly print. You’ll see it again in a later post I’m sure!

Cornejo, New York Designer for ‘Zero’ talks fashion

© Story by Merle Ginsberg at hollywoodreporter.com

Designer Maria Cornejo host New Show With Artist Alice Waese and Wearing Her Own Designs as she was in Los Angeles to launch an art show and début her resort and pre-fall collections.

Maria Cornejo Designs - H 2012

THR Q&A: Zero’s Maria Cornejo is one line of clothes out of New York that is an insiders’ fashion brand, and her New York fashion week runway shows always prove that, as they are attended by editors at the highest levels of the fashion business. Her clothes are always comfortable and chic, go from day to  with a quick change of shoes or jewelry and  have an avant-garde city cool-girl edge that’s sophisticated without hitting that “arty” line too hard. In other words, they’re rather perfect. Her pants, sweaters and leather jackets have amazing fit and a little twis,- and her dresses achieve the impossible trifecta: They’re sexy and comfortable and interesting. All this, and her prices are much better than most designer clothes, but the quality doesn’t suffer. No wonder smart women love her. Cornejo has a longtime small West Village boutique at Greenwich and Jane, but her eponymous Melrose Place space is many times the size and has the airy feeling of an art gallery. That’s why she decided to host a small art gathering for her friend, former employee and present artist Alice Waese, from New York City, who creates art out of metal, silver and paper. Cornejo doesn’t get to L.A. often as she’s busy Continue reading

Fashion Week AU

©ourtesy of Jayson Brunsdon @ NationalTimesAU
Fashion Week is a seasonal industry. But unlike in the natural world, fashion’s seasons move with the times. Fashion Designers used to put clothes from our spring and summer collections into the stores when the weather got warm, but now we put them into stores in the middle of winter. And we put winter clothes into stores in the middle of summer. This, I believe, is just symptomatic of society at large. Everything has sped up. People have shorter concentration spans and want to see something new on a regular basis. The stores have to give their Continue reading

Spain’s Emerging Fashion Designer: ‘IXONE ELZO’

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012 fashion show in Madrid introduces Basque young designer Ixone Elzo, inspired by the wardrobes of the aristocracy.

At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid Spain, the talented Spanish Designer IXONE ELZO, presented a marvelous and excellently well structured collection, therefore making his mark in the fashion industry. Predominantly green, white and red, she created male clothes that looked like as if they were inspired from another era, but perfectly wearable and contemporary suitable. Formulated for modern and elegant men with high sense of aesthetics with small details that somehow reminded me of a re-interpretation of Harlequin’s clothes at fashion week. How to Read Costume on Film

Clothes on Film
In this abridged version of a feature originally published in Moviescope magazine in December 2010, Clothes on Film take an overview look at how to ‘read’ costume design. Costume design remains one of the most misunderstood and underappreciated filmmaking arts. Far in excess of merely ‘dressing’ an actor for their role, costume design is discourse. A film can be read via costume; sometimes overtly, sometimes subtextually. Not just conspicuous sci-fi or period, but contemporary stories set within a familiar world in familiar attire. On screen even the most rudimentary item of clothing can take on meaning. .....more on this

PARIS: Fall 2011--GARETH PUGH

Gareth Pugh’s fall 2011 collection was unmistakeably Pugh–having black dramatic shapes with a razor sharp edge, severe styling on the models and sci-fi undertones. Interestingly enough, there was also the shocking edition of electric blue and gold paneling for a more colorful adventure than seasons past.

Balenciaga fall-winter 2011 collection

And in a season where we've seen dresses over pants from nearly every designer, Ghesquiere's take was bar none. Draped and colorblocked silk chemise dresses were the height of cool over slim-fitting, foam wool pants with small slits in the back, letting them rest easily over the high heels. When the next show had started an hour later, editors were still talking about how much there was to wear--and how they needed to start saving up now. It was quite a turnaround for Ghesquiere, whose last few runway collections have been wonderfully conceptual, but not necessarily accessible.
