GenArt F/W host Independent LA Designers

Wednesday night- The third day Style Fashion Week featured a collaboration with GenArt, a national arts and entertainment company, to bring three Los Angeles indie fashion designers to the stage.  Shaina Mote , Crybaby Presents, and Korovilas wowed the crowd with their individual runway shows. Before each line hit the stage, a short video giving a background of the different designers gave the audience a better insight into the inspiration behind each particular line.

Next up was up-and-coming indie and self-taught designer Shaina Mote. Large floppy hats gave this chic and organic looking line a nice touch. Her collection was fresh and tailored to perfection. Shaina’s dedication to creating timeless pieces was also apparent.  With a bright future in design ahead of her, Shaina eventually hopes to include menswear in her line as well as open her own boutique store that would feature items other indie designers in the area. Designer Maria Cornejo host New Show With Artist Alice Waese and Wearing Her Own Designs as she was in Los Angeles to launch an art show and début her resort and pre-fall collections. 

THR Q&A: Zero’s Maria Cornejo is one line of clothes out of New York that is an insiders’ fashion brand, and her New York fashion week runway shows always prove that, as they are attended by editors at the highest levels of the fashion business. Her clothes are always comfortable and chic, go from day to  with a quick change of shoes or jewelry and  have an avant-garde city cool-girl edge that’s sophisticated without hitting that “arty” line too hard. In other words, they’re rather perfect. Her pants, sweaters and leather jackets have amazing fit and a little twis,- and her dresses achieve the impossible trifecta: They’re sexy and comfortable and interesting. All this, and her prices are much better than most designer clothes, but the quality doesn’t suffer. No wonder smart women love her. Cornejo has a longtime small West Village boutique at Greenwich and Jane, but her eponymous Melrose Place space is many times the size and has the airy feeling of an art gallery. Tyra Banks, ‘America’s Next Top Model’ hires BRYANBOY

Tyra Banks new kid on the block, Bryan Grey Yambao, is more commonly known as Bryanboy, will join the cast of America’s Next Top Model. The 31-year-old fashion blogger, who launched his site in 2004, wrote on his Facebook this morning about his new America’s Next Top Model gig: ‘Excited with my new role on cycle 19 of America’s Next Top Model’. Although the CW network is yet to confirm how the fashion blogger, who  lived in the Philippines, will be involved, he has already relocated to Los Angeles in order to film the CW network reality series created by model Tyra Banks. He posted a photograph of his new Los Angeles apartment on Twitter yesterday. The new signing follows news that Tyra Banks, 38, dumped the show’s previous judges, fashion photographer Nigel Barker, runway coach J. Alexander and make-up artist Jay Manuel, last month. Tyra Banks told Access Hollywood: ‘We reached a point, where we feel the CW network show needs a new boost.’ While many TV stars, such as Brooke Bourke and Katherine Heigl, have turned to blogging after building successful careers, it is the first time a fashion blogger will become a TV star. His appointment had been hinted at for months. Concept Los Angeles at ACE Gallery has become the creative platform born out of the modern Mecca of marketing, which is Los Angeles today. The aim of Concept is to merge entertainment with some of the
most upcoming  fashion designers, artists and musicians of the moment.
How Concept Fashion Week all started: 
Doug Christmas, owner of ACE Gallery, had an interest to get more involved in the fashion industry, and approached fashion designer Henry Duarte. Duarte introduced Concept to Doug, and the rest is history – a month later they announced their newly formed partnership. right, Henry Duarte wearing his design

Doug Christmas and Duarte explained in an earlier interview:

“Many designers are looking for a new way to showcase their collection . Having a beautiful raw space as a blank canvas in which designers can push their creative boundaries and expand the idea of what a fall fashion show can be, from a traditional runway show to video projections, to live performance art, there are no boundaries restricting the way a designer can communicate their vision”.
Ace Gallery on 5514 Wilshire blvd is an enormous labyrinth, which has space for everybody with interest in fashion & art. The only drawback with this venue is that the main floor has only one unisex bathroom, and you had to walk three floors up for additional.

Nuvula :: Columbian designers Rebeca and Vanessa Victoria of Nuvula, kicked off opening night with theatrics and colors.

Los Angeles  Fall Winter 2012 collection titled, “In the airs of La Belle Époque,” was a tribute in colors and textures to Gustav Klimt and Toulouse Lautrec and the imaginary wardrobes of their muses. Nuvula’s fashion show started off with a live performance of ‘El Tango De Roxanne” from the movie Moulin Rouge. The singer was accompanied by a violinist and a cellist, so the music set an more operatic tone. The eco-line consisted of pieces inspired by 20’s, 30’s and Art Deco – in geometric shapes, patterns and silhouettes. Inspiration was also drawn from Asian luxury – Chinese and Japanese hybrids and Samurai armors. The fabrics were made with hemp and bamboo and low impact H20 dyes. In addition, Nuvula uses no animal products, choosing to use only vegan leathers, and is strictly anti-fur. nuvula.com

Ina Soltani brings the Gleam and Glamour

 

 L.A. Style Fashion Week has returned to the former St. Vibiana’s Cathedral downtown March 12-16 with a schedule that to date includes runway shows by Stop Staring!, Ina Soltani, XCVI, Skingraft and L’une Collection by Anh Volcek. (Open to industry buyers, media and invitees only.) For the third season in a row, Style Fashion Week dazzles in the Vibiana cathedral at 214 S. Main Street in downtown Los Angeles. The six day elite production kicked off Sunday at a private party in Bel Air. Soltani couture Style Fashion week the L.A. based vintage dress line Stop Staring! rolled out a new collection inspired by The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema (Epoca de Oro). Paris Fall 2012 ready-to-wear (RTW) shows now over, it’s time to bring the fashion focus a bit closer to home. Following are some of the noteworthy scheduled events of Los Angeles’ 10-day Fashion “Week Shows,” which begins Thursday, March 8, 2012:
“Attire to Inspire,” a Thursday evening cocktail party, fashion shows and silent auction fundraiser for BREATHE LA (a nonprofit focusing on lung health and air quality) is set to include Moods of Norway, Yotam Solomon and eco-contemporary label VBN. It is open to the ticket-buying public at the Conga Room in downtown Los Angeles. Cocktails will kick off at 6:30 p.m. followed by an 8 p.m. fashion shows. Attire to Inspire, Conga Room at L.A. Costume Design display at FIDM

Eye on the Oscars: Art Direction, Costume Designers & Makeup

For 20 years, costume designers, some of whom were nominated for an Oscar on Jan. 24, have found their work on display at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles. The groundwork for securing the costumes starts a year in advance as FIDM Museum director Barbara Bundy and her staff curate the display after watching movies and trailers. Some of the costumes have been rented, some recycled for other productions and with so many projects from around the globe meriting inclusion, the staff has to move early before costumes are scattered to the winds once production ends. Costume Designer Oscar nominees displayed in the LA fashion district in downtown Los Angeles. FIDM Institute of Fashion Design and Merchandising School, has produced several notable designers over the years. Divine Design [Project Angel Food, L.A.] to honor Viola Davis, Patricia Field, Thomas Keller

It’s hard to believe that this year marks the 20th anniversary of Divine Design, the annual gala fundraiser and six-day shopping extravaganza with proceeds benefiting Project Angel Food. Serving all of Los Angeles County, Project Angel Food is dedicated to delivering nutritious meals to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
