Museo Salvatore Ferragamo

Housed just downstairs from the company’s flagship boutique on Florence’s ultra-chic Via dei Tornabuoni, the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo pays tribute to this legendary Italian fashion company’s products — and the global celebrities who helped make them famous. Naples-born Salvatore Ferragamo became “shoemaker to the stars” in the 1920s after opening a shop in Hollywood. With rotating exhibitions like “Marilyn” and an impressively displayed permanent collection of Ferragamo’s iconic footwear, this museum is a must-see for the casual and footwear-obsessed fashion follower.

Gucci Gets Groove Back

The roller-coaster history of one of fashion’s most iconic brands.

I catch my first glimpse of Frida Giannini Gucci’s creative director, at the Venice International Film Festival, where she attendrd screening of Madonna’s new film, W.E. Giannini is wearing a one-shouldered black dress, her deep tan contrasting with her perfectly blown-out blonde hair. She is not, however, the most bronzed designer at the Palazzo del Cinema, or the most meticulously coiffed. That honor belongs to Valentino, who is two seats—and several worlds—away from Giannini, who cites among her eclectic muses both Jackie Kennedy and Iggy Pop. Keeping his back to the Gucci contingent, Valentino spends the next 15 minutes whispering to his longtime partner, Giancarlo Giammetti. It’s fun to imagine what he might be saying. Valentino dressed Jackie when she mourned JFK and, later, when she wed Aristotle Onassis. He knew and loved Jackie, whereas Gucci’s “Jackie” has two fringed tassels and comes in exotic skin. Paris F/W: Valentino 2012

Designers Valentino Maria Grazia Kiuru and Pier Paolo Pikkioli proposed for the spring 2012 collection of romantic, consisting of lacy dresses from pink to black. Sandals are requested to wear flat shoes, and hair braided in girls lax braids around her head.

Valentino: Florence Not Milan

VALENTINO will unveil its autumn – winter 2012-13 menswear collection for the first time at the Pitti Uomo show in Florence on January 11 – where the brand’s designers will be the event’s special guests. “We are very happy that Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the Valentino creative directors, accepted our invitation,” Raffelle Napoleone, ceo of Pitti Immagine, said. “Their work combines a dynamic, contemporary spirit with the sartorial savoir-faire of a house that wrote a huge chapter in the history of fashion. Their visionary yet pragmatic approach combines tradition and innovation without interruptions: this is a feature that Pitti Immagine has always admired and looked for in fashion designers. The brand used to unveil its collection during Menswear Fashion Week in Milan, and more recently via a presentation in Paris, but this will be the label’s first catwalk show since spring/summer 2008 when it was still designed by Valentino himself. “We have been following their work since the first shows in Paris. In a very short time they have developed a secure, poetic and precise style. And now the time has come to offer them the Pitti stage to present the new vision of the Valentino Man with a dedicated fashion show”. “By so prominently featuring one of the icons of Made in Italy, Pitti Uomo continues its support for contemporary Italian fashions,” a statement for the event added. – - more

PARIS: Fall 2011--GARETH PUGH

Gareth Pugh’s fall 2011 collection was unmistakeably Pugh–having black dramatic shapes with a razor sharp edge, severe styling on the models and sci-fi undertones. Interestingly enough, there was also the shocking edition of electric blue and gold paneling for a more colorful adventure than seasons past.
