PARIS: Gareth Pugh Spring/Summer 2014

What can we say? Well, I’ll just go ahead and say it. FAN-TAB-U-LUST to Mr. Pugh! I simply consider this collection to be one of the most ‘original’ set of looks to date. Day, Evening & Formal wear, all put together. Go Gareth !!
gpBack in 2005, Gareth Pugh was living in a squat in London when all the important UK fashion magazines attached themselves to him like a Fred Perry-clad tumor. Fresh out of fashion school and an internship with Rick Owens, he was soon a style-page wank fantasy, representative of the type of hijinks English fashion clamors for. It was all justified. Gareth’s first shows featured inflatable outfits and light-strewn garments. Everyone in attendance over the age of 30 offered mealy-mouthed praise—like it was all very well and fun and diverting but ultimately fey and immature. Attendees under the age of 25, however, cheered the models and clothes down the runway, feeling like somebody had finally reinvented fashion for the 21st century and rescued us all from retro regurgitation. Six years on, fashion sites are overflowing with photos of androgynous kids addicted to black who look just like Pugh. His line garners the type of attention and praise usually reserved for the vaunted and dusty old guard. He shows annually in Paris and New York, working and hanging out with all the ritziest fashion people, like Karl Lagerfeld and Mario Testino. We’ve known him for a while, though, so we persuaded him to take a few minutes for the following little chat..Read on : View more Gareth’s Collection

PARIS F/W Spring 2014 starts today

©ourtesy of FirstComesFashion & Vogue.co.uk
paris fashion weekPARIS FASHION WEEK starts today – an epic nine-day-long marathon that ends next Wednesday. It’s the mother of all fashion capitals, the home of fashion’s biggest and oldest names, from Chanel and Dior to Balenciaga and Givenchy. If energy levels are beginning to wane among the fashion press, who have now been on the move for three weeks, Paris is always certain to inject a new verve. –> Instagrams of #PFW

The action gets underway today with Anthony Vaccarello – who is rumoured to be Versus’s next collaborator. His sexy, skin-tight dresses are a given though, and we look forward to seeing them worn by his model muse, Karlie Kloss, who is a regular on his catwalk. Wednesday’s big show is Rochas and all eyes will be on creative director Marco Zanini, who is rumoured to be leaving for recently-revived fashion house Schiaparelli

China-Born, Paris-Based Designers Spotlight Heritage At Paris Couture Fashion Week

©ourtesy of JingDaily By
yiqing-yin-015This year’s Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2013-2014 saw a range of designers from a diverse range of backgrounds presenting their creations on the runway. Among them were China-born emerging designers Laurence Xu and Yiqing Yin, both of whom utilize traditional Chinese elements in their couture lines to create their own distinct aesthetics. Making his mark on the French fashion world, Xu held his first ever haute couture fashion show at Pavillon Cambon. Themed Xiuqiu, which literally means “embroidered ball” in Chinese, the show seamlessly integrated Chinese style and Western elements. As Women’s Wear Daily reported, Xu paraded highly embellished,

Raf Simons S/S F/W 2014

Belgian designer Raf Simons fully embraced the man skirt for his Spring/Summer 2013 presentation at Paris Fashion Week, pulling inspiration from womenswear collections to create masculine versions of dresses and oversized t-shirts. Pop art was also a big influence, with boxy androgynous silhouettes, clean lines, and lots of bold blocks of pink, green, and blue. Vintage-style prints reminiscent of 1920s graphic design also featured on many of the pieces, with depictions of male athletes accompanied by text such as “artificially flavored”.

Party Show Fashion Week with Illustrator Nicolas Tavitian

Fashion Week Paris WORLD EXCLUSIVE for Style Voyeur, a conversation with Parisian Illustrator, Nicolas Tavitian – as he takes us inside a Paris Fashion Week show!
Above & Below: Lanvin Fall/Winter 2012 show
At Paris Fashion Week we asked Nicolas, you were on Style Voyeur back in 2010 (see here), how did you get to know Style Voyeur? I don’t remember anymore how I got to know Style Voyeur. I can’t help thinking it is my curiosity which drove me to your blog. But I can still remember what I thought about your pictures and your words the first time I glanced at them, which is more important. I was intrigued because I found that the people you photographed had a very relaxed attitude, looking satisfied and happy to be there, happy to show at fashion week, what they did or their outfits. It was like pictures taken during a party, not during what could be considered in Paris as a working moment. It was cooler. It told me something about Perth but also something about the Paris show.
This is a major fashion week scoop for me, one that I am very blessed to share with my readers, how is it that you're able to give StyleVoyeur such an EXCLUSIVE? I Read more…

Jil Sander Fashion Designer ‘Raf Simons’ replaces Galliano

Belgian designer Raf Simons cries at the end of his final Jil Sanders show.

A Fashion show hosted by Jil Sander is usually cool temples of austerity but the atmosphere was crackling with emotion on Saturday when fashion designer Raf Simons showed his final collection for the house at Milan Fashion Week shows. The Belgian-born fashion designer received a standing ovation for his swan song, an opulent symphony to minimalism comprised of clean cuts and double-faced cashmere coats in sugary pinks, pale grey and white fashion looks. The volume of the coats in the fashion show were all countered by fine knit dresses cut close to the body, along with others incorporating seams used to construct geometric shapes. The fashion show was one of the better shows, no doubt. Belgian designer Raf Simons cried  at the end of his final Jil Sander  fashion show. (Photo: AFP) Simons is leaving the brand after 6½ critically acclaimed years to make way for the return of German designer Jil Sander to the house she founded in 1968. It will be the third coming of Sander at her label: she left it twice when it was controlled by the Prada Group because of creative differences. Designer Sander said she was excited to Read more…

Fatima Lopes kicks off Paris Fall 2012 Fashion Week

By THOMAS ADAMSON Associated Press ©Mercury News

PARIS fashion designer, Fatima Lopes kicked off Paris 2012 fall-winter ready-to-wear season Tuesday with blood reds, provocative leathers and fox fur at the Hotel des Invalides war museum. The Portuguese designer channeled human morphology with blood-red dress inserts, shredded leather sleeves and prints of the venous system in the iconic monument that was built for generals wounded in French imperial wars. Bucking the current trend for padding, the Lopes woman in geometric sheaths had narrow shoulders a look that would have accentuated the frailty of the tiny-boned models had it not been for the provocative leathers in patent black and nude. “Yes, I make tiny shoulders and waists. But this is not weak. It’s feminine and sexy, therefore strong,” said the designer backstage, wearing one of her figure-hugging creations. And sexy was the overriding mood, with bias-cut sheaths split revealingly up the leg and exposing the shoulders. In another sensual look with a plunging decollete, voluminous brown fox fur sleeves contrasted with tight patent leather lapels and a second-skin micro skirt. When the show ended, the crowd departed sheepishly through the courtyard, with 40 huge canons pointing straight at them. – - see Gallery  : NOTE: International Icons reign supreme at this Paris Read more

Paris Fashion Week: CELINE show impresses Anna Wintour

Paris Fashion Week for Fall 2012: Anna Wintour was overheard saying at the Celine presentation. “Can you please ensure all fashion shows are like this?”  “This” being a tiny gathering of 30 editors; Paris Haute Couture fashion designer, Phoebe Philo at the door personally greeting everyone and looking much more at ease than she has in the past, when she has been coralled in the middle of a crush of admirers backstage at Celine’s bigger shows. The designer is due to give birth to her third child next month – a boy – and perhaps it was an extra need for calm that prompted this new approach. Whatever, the white cube of a room, with its polished concrete floors suited Philo’s almost-cube shapes. It would be fascinating to see her drawings: do they resemble a child’s first blocky scribbles? The concept for this fashion week collection – rectangular tops and masculine trousers with low crotches – was certainly boxy. Add leather – the fabric of the season – to the equation and you have the components for a entire warehouse of cardboard packing cases. Jean Paul Gaultier’s tribute to Amy Winehouse hits wrong notes

Is it strictly appropriate for a French couturier to send out a catwalk homage to Amy Winehouse complete with models wearing exposed bra straps, Fred Perry collars, baseball jackets and shirts tucked into pencil skirts? Probably not. But yesterday in Paris Jean Paul Gaultier chose to do just that. A live barbershop quartet crooned an elliptical rendition of the late singer’s most famous recording, “Rehab”, and Gaultier went so far as to attach black veils to towering beehives for his … story ®Courtesy of inspirationsinmylife, wanna Read more!  NOTE: Paris fashion shows will begin very soon hosting Paris Fashion Week with the Fall fashion celebration of Haute Couture fashion. Paris: Disco inferno! 70s Style.

Divas Chaka Kahn, Grace Jones and Gloria Gaynor take the stage at Etam’s Paris Fashion Week show

The 70s are back! Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones and Chaka Khan performed during Etam’s Paris Fashion Week show tonight.

Anyone walking into the Beaux-Arts de Paris might have assumed they had stepped back in time tonight. Though fashion house Etam was hosting their Spring/Summer 2012 show, it was the 70s-era disco queens onstage who captured the evening’s spotlight tonight. Soul divas Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones and Chaka Kahn all wore their glittery best to perform at the Paris Fashion Week show. Queen of Disco, ‘I Will Survive’ singer Gaynor, 63, still looked fabulous in a sparkling brown gown. Grace Jones looked every inch the Andy Warhol muse she was in a revealing black bodysuit, mid-calf length boots and a tuxedo jacket. Paris fashion week with Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge and the Pointer Sisters. Heat be still! Haute couture at fashion house Etam was rawkin’ last night. Hopefully New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week fashion designers will make some attempt to match this presentation with their fashion shows. The fashion industry with its street style, has arrived. 70s disco will live on. – - more on this Hot Show
