PARIS: Gareth Pugh Spring/Summer 2014

GarethPugh 00garethPugh 01
What can we say? Well, I’ll just go ahead and say it. FAN-TAB-U-LUST to Mr. Pugh! I simply consider this collection to be one of the most ‘original’ set of looks to date. Day, Evening & Formal wear, all put together. Go Gareth !!
gpBack in 2005, Gareth Pugh was living in a squat in London when all the important UK fashion magazines attached themselves to him like a Fred Perry-clad tumor. Fresh out of fashion school and an internship with Rick Owens, he was soon a style-page wank fantasy, representative of the type of hijinks English fashion clamors for. It was all justified. Gareth’s first shows featured inflatable outfits and light-strewn garments. Everyone in attendance over the age of 30 offered mealy-mouthed praise—like it was all very well and fun and diverting but ultimately fey and immature. Attendees under the age of 25, however, cheered the models and clothes down the runway, feeling like somebody had finally reinvented fashion for the 21st century and rescued us all from retro regurgitation. Six years on, fashion sites are overflowing with photos of androgynous kids addicted to black who look just like Pugh. His line garners the type of attention and praise usually reserved for the vaunted and dusty old guard. He shows annually in Paris and New York, working and hanging out with all the ritziest fashion people, like Karl Lagerfeld and Mario Testino. We’ve known him for a while, though, so we persuaded him to take a few minutes for the following little chat..Read on : View more Gareth’s Collection

PARIS F/W Spring 2014 starts today

©ourtesy of FirstComesFashion & Vogue.co.uk
paris fashion weekPARIS FASHION WEEK starts today – an epic nine-day-long marathon that ends next Wednesday. It’s the mother of all fashion capitals, the home of fashion’s biggest and oldest names, from Chanel and Dior to Balenciaga and Givenchy. If energy levels are beginning to wane among the fashion press, who have now been on the move for three weeks, Paris is always certain to inject a new verve. –> Instagrams of #PFW

The action gets underway today with Anthony Vaccarello – who is rumoured to be Versus’s next collaborator. His sexy, skin-tight dresses are a given though, and we look forward to seeing them worn by his model muse, Karlie Kloss, who is a regular on his catwalk. Wednesday’s big show is Rochas and all eyes will be on creative director Marco Zanini, who is rumoured to be leaving for recently-revived fashion house Schiaparelli

Coco CHANEL Best Quotes

Endlessly Quotable Chanel

Coco Chanel once said, “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself,” adding, after a beat, “Aloud.” The legendary fashion designer did exactly that for most of her life, which meant that she became not only one of the world’s strongest forces in fashion, but also one of its most quoted citizens. In honor of CHANEL Aug. 19 birthday, here’s a look back at our favorite of Coco’s many declarations.
Source: Corbis Images
History About designer CHANEL from Wikipedia: Gabrielle “Coco” Bonheur Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971) was a French fashion designer and founder of the Chanel brand. She was the only fashion designer to be named on Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century. Along with Paul Poiret, Chanel is credited with liberating women from the constraints of the corseted silhouette and popularizing the acceptance of a sportive, casual chic as the feminine standard in the post-World War I era. A prolific fashion creator, Chanel’s influence Continue reading

Paris Fashion Week: CELINE show impresses Anna Wintour

Paris Fashion Week for Fall 2012: Anna Wintour was overheard saying at the Celine presentation. “Can you please ensure all fashion shows are like this?”  “This” being a tiny gathering of 30 editors; Paris Haute Couture fashion designer, Phoebe Philo at the door personally greeting everyone and looking much more at ease than she has in the past, when she has been coralled in the middle of a crush of admirers backstage at Celine’s bigger shows. The designer is due to give birth to her third child next month – a boy – and perhaps it was an extra need for calm that prompted this new approach. Whatever, the white cube of a room, with its polished concrete floors suited Philo’s almost-cube shapes. It would be fascinating to see her drawings: do they resemble a child’s first blocky scribbles? The concept for this fashion week collection – rectangular tops and masculine trousers with low crotches – was certainly boxy. Add leather – the fabric of the season – to the equation and you have the components for a entire warehouse of cardboard packing cases. Jean Paul Gaultier’s tribute to Amy Winehouse hits wrong notes

Is it strictly appropriate for a French couturier to send out a catwalk homage to Amy Winehouse complete with models wearing exposed bra straps, Fred Perry collars, baseball jackets and shirts tucked into pencil skirts? Probably not. But yesterday in Paris Jean Paul Gaultier chose to do just that. A live barbershop quartet crooned an elliptical rendition of the late singer’s most famous recording, “Rehab”, and Gaultier went so far as to attach black veils to towering beehives for his … story ®Courtesy of inspirationsinmylife, wanna Read more!  NOTE: Paris fashion shows will begin very soon hosting Paris Fashion Week with the Fall fashion celebration of Haute Couture fashion. TOM FORD’S Chanel Campaign

Models: Saskia de Brauw and Joan Smalls

Chanel‘s Spring / Summer 2012 campaign and, of course, Karl Lagerfeld has set the bar high for us mere mortals. Joan Smalls and Saskia de Brauw look impossibly graceful working a variety of gymnast-tastic poses while perched on exercise equipment. But forget your standard baggy tee + leggings gym gear, these ladylike ladies flex their muse-worthy muscles in delicate frocks and frothy evening dresses, with not one drop of sweat in sight. This is Chanel, daaahling. The series of striking black-and-white photos were styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Uncle Karl himself over the water at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France (where the Resort 2012 show took place, dontcha know). – - more Read

Channel ‘brought it’ to Paris F/W

Chanel’s collection was delightful enough, regardless of setting: romantic and feminine dresses, featuring puffed sleeves, ruching and tweed; skirts of all styles; and (a lot of) white, aqua, pale blue pink and black being the principal colours for the season. There was a light, approachable feel to the designs. — Take a Look: Video ©ourtesy Lucire

An Interview with 'Karl Lagerfeld'

'I'm Not a Fortune-Teller': A Q&A with Karl Lagerfeld

What is the concept behind the Métiers d'Art collection?
In fact there are two concepts. It's a real collection, on the other side of the year. Like Cruise is shown in spring, this collection is shown later in the year. We needed a collection to balance Cruise in terms of dates in the shops. The second concept is the simple idea that Chanel has all these marvelous technicians with the highest level of creativity and quality in their world. It was a perfect idea to use that as a base for a new collection.
Did you have a certain woman in mind?
I have my permanent muses and my muses of the moment. No names.
In a world of increasing homogeneity—and not just in fashion—is the Métiers d'Art collection designed to give more women the opportunity to be distinctive in their dress?

ANNA PIAGGI: a Fashion Original

The "Grand Dame" of Italy's Expression of High Fashion by way of Italian VOGUE. For over 50 years Ms. Piaggi has written and "racked" Europe's Look at fashion. Inparticularly Italy, France & England. She is most definitely a Living LEGEND. Now in her Seventies, Anna Piaggi still expresses and shows ALL that follow, how it's ALL done. Style! This is Something Anna Piaggi has always exhilarated. Lucky for me, I had a chance to meet and hang out with her and her late husband, Alfa Castaldi at their home when I lived in Milano, thanks to Yvonne Taylor Cheyne. WOW! They gave lovely parties back then and she is indeed, a Lovely human being. I have collected some great photos of Anna Piaggi for your viewing. After you have reviewed them you will see why she continues to be such an inspiration to the Industry called FASHION. Further Notes on Miss Piaggi follows:
Anna Piaggi is an Italian fashion writer and style icon. Anna Piaggi has worked as a translator for an Italian publishing company Mondadori, then written for fashion magazines such as the Italian edition of Vogue and, in the 1980s, the avant-garde magazine Vanity. She is known especially for double page spreads in the Italian Vogue, where her artistic flair has been given free expression in a montage of images and text, with layout by Luca Stoppini. Since 1969, she has used a bright red manual Olivetti valentine typewriter for her work. Piaggi has a large clothes collection, including 2865 dresses and 265 pairs of shoes, according to a 2006 exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She dresses in an exuberant, unique and eclectic way, never appearing in the same outfit more than once in public. Such is her influence and knowledge in the fashion world, Manolo Blahnik has dubbed her 'The world's last great authority on frocks'. Her associates in the fashion world include the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld (from the 1970s), who has often sketched her, and Manolo Blahnik, who is the designer of many of her shoes. She is the muse of British milliner Stephen Jones. She is also an admirer of British clothes designer Vivienne Westwood and her hats, made by Prudence Millinery. She is rarely seen without fingerless gloves, mostly by UK designer label Glovedup Gloves (www.Glovedup.com). She has lived in New York and has visited London and Italy periodically since the 1950s. Piaggi was married to the photographer Alfa Castaldi in 1962 in New York. Castaldi died in 1995.

Michael Kors: “Initially, my clothes couldn’t be expensive enough. I went from thinking fashion was only the provenance of big-city affluent people, to thinking you could be 14 or 80, live in the city or suburbs, have endless money or a limited budget, and buy something great-looking at the right price for you. The world has changed, and people look and feel better for it … I always say, ‘If you blurred your eyes, would the wealthiest person in the world want to wear it?’ If the answer is no, we don’t make it.” [Fashionologie]
