Dolce & Gabbana (Italian pronunciation: [ˈdoltʃe e ɡabˈbaːna]) is an Italian luxury industry fashion house. The company was started by Italian designers Domenico Dolce (born 13 August 1958 in Polizzi Generosa, Sicily) and Stefano Gabbana (born 14 November 1962 in Milan). By 2005 their turnover was €597 million. The two met in Milan in 1980 and worked for the same fashion house. In 1982 they established a designer consulting studio; in time it grew to become “Dolce & Gabbana”. They presented their first women’s collection in 1985 in Milan, where a year later their store would open its doors. (Dolce & Gabbana 2011).

Milan F/W: Moschino Rocked it.

MOSCHINO turns 30 this year and celebrations have been non-stop. As one would expect from a house such as this, a milestone anniversary was never going to slip by, unnoticed. The Italians already staged a runway show in Shanghai earlier this year, and everyone was expecting something bigger and better on home turf this week. Invitations arrived accompanied by a boxed white t-shirt branded “For Fashion Victims Only,” and for days now, rumours have been circling of Gloria Gaynor set to perform I am what I am. Those rumours proved true. The show opened with video footage of founder Franco Moschino, who died in 1994 from complications of AIDS, aged just 44. It was a poignant moment, but show-goers, fuelled by champagne supped in the courtyard, were in the mood for a party and with that, the curtain opened and out popped Pat Cleveland in that full-skirted “cow” gown (the same gown she wore 30 years ago, in 1983 for the house’s first ever fashion show). The crowd lapped it up whooping and cheering. Only in Milan. Other archival hits followed, such as the clustered teddy bear hat and scarf, and a ball gown made from bin bags.
moschino 01The spring collection that followed is best described as a catalogue of reworked greatest hits, from safety-pinned embellished black jackets with ring-pull zip pockets, to rose-printed dresses, gingham bloomers, monochrome ruffle-collared skirt suits and T-shirts emblazoned “Niente” and a caftan that read “Holy Chic”. Everything was trussed up on good girls or bad girls, the former accessorised with pearls, the latter with brassy gold chains, hoop earrings, and those shouty logo belts. It was humorous, delightful, outrageous and ridiculous and in all, a thoroughly fitting tribute by Rossella Jardini, Frano Moschino’s friend and former assistant who took up the reins in the mid Nineties – and yes, there are many pieces here that will prove to be commercial hits too, when these clothes land in stores in spring – but in truth, that wasn’t really the point of it all this evening. Take it away Gaynor…!

Manish Arora delivered an avant garde Indian wedding collection
for the bride with an attitude

Two back-to-back fashion weeks that were held recently in the capital – PCJ Delhi Couture Week and India Bridal Week – stand testimony to the fact that couture in India caters largely to the big fat Indian wedding. With the exception of a few designers who showcased some body-hugging gowns or light evening saris both events were high on trousseau and glamour. So couture creations that are meant to be bespoke, customised and hand-crafted “one-of- a-kind” creations were basically runways replete and overflowing with seriously

Milan Fashion Week: day 2

The first Milan Fashion Week show of Day 2 was Max Mara. The main inspiration of the collection was Africa and safari style, filtered through the iconic style of the maison. The main items were safari jackets, trenches, jumpsuits and tuxedos. The colors passed from the warm shades like tan, beige, camel to more cold shades and deepest black. I really liked the mix of floral colors and military prints and the oversized tortoise sunglasses.

Milan Fashion Week opens with an explosion of colors

After New York and London, it’s Milan Fashion Week turn to have a say as to how women will dress for the spring-summer 2013. If the first day of previews was any indication, next summer will feature a lot of bold color and patterns. While the more structured, usually daytime, looks were in heavier fabrics, evening or playtime came in airier, diaphanous materials like chiffon and tulle at Gucci in Milan.
‘Sophisticated and essential’: Gucci’s Spring and Summer 2013 collection featured bold shades
Romantic looks: Some of the delicate prints were reminiscent of Japanese floral wallpaper and the bell sleeves of a simple cocktail sheath (left) underlined the couture feel of the Gucci collection
Milan designers are offering more romantic looks rather than their trademark slinky and sexy. Long and loose pants were paired with ample tunic tops while voluminous long skirts offered a nice sweep. The accessories – high-heels and bags alike – often replicated Read more…

Milan Fashion Week has drawn to a close and we’ve taken a look at the key trends to emerge for next season from the Italian catwalks. Fur, as already seen on the Autumn/Winter 2012 runway in both New York and London, also returned to Milan as the winter outerwear favorite.
AW12 trend: Fur. Missoni, Gucci and Etro.
Soft fur jackets contrasted Etro’s boho styles and Missoni’s signature colorful knitted stripes while two-tone fur complimented Marni’s block color collection. Full fur coats were seen at Gucci and Fendi, the former adopting a classic look while the latter opted for bright dyed fur.

Milan Fashion Week Begins | ‘Urban Menswear’

John Varvatos Fall/Winter 2012

Urban Rock–Designer John Varvatos spins a tale of the streets and rock for the fall/winter 2012 season in his runway show. Male Models were Embodying a certain harshness in comparison to last season’s romantic laments, Varvatos taps into an element of youth. Bringing together garments in an almost reckless fashion, the mood is relaxed and the results more exciting. While laceless boots barely come to a close, oversize outerwear in various hues of gray bring comfort to knits as well as other pieces, tattered and stained. Featuring tall men in a wardrobe that possesses the potential to be both tidy and fantastically disheveled, John Varvatos dismisses the aspect of age for a collection that evolves with a little smarts in Milan fashion.  – - more Pics | ©ourtesy of ‘theFashionisto.com

Top sort after JAMAICAN Model, SHENA

Saint International top model Shena Moulton firmly stamped her mark on the fashion world during the last quarter of 2011. Moulton's blistering schedule in November and December proved her mettle, and she was the only Jamaican model during the the most recent pre-fall collection. She appeared for the highly selective Calvin Klein runway shows, taking her tally of showings for the designer to four. This solidifies her status as one of Calvin Klein's 'It' girls, a description not often given to black models. "In three weeks (November to December) Shena shot Italian Vogue in Milan, Playing Fashion Magazine in London, Grey Magazine and Marie Claire in Paris, and Interview Magazine in New York,' explained Deiwght Peters, owner of Saint International and the man credited with discovering Moulton and guiding her international career.

Bottega Veneta Goes Green

Bottega Veneta may not rank highly in the minds of animal lovers, seeing that their spring 2012 collection alone featured glazed crocodile, grommet-covered ostrich, and lizard skin accessories.  But their standing with tree-huggers just went up. The luxury brand’s Milan headquarters was recently awarded a “Carbon Neutral 2010” certification. It’s apparently just the beginning for Bottega though. The brand is planning to reduce greenhouse gas emissions during their fashion week and sales campaigns—times of the year when pollution spikes, according to the brand.  No surprise, considering the amount of power, energy, and air travel that goes into producing a single show. Luckily they’re already moving in the right direction by using carbon credits to offset additional impact. Bottega isn’t the first luxury label to go green, though.  Stand-out predecessors include Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood who takes part in the International Trade Centre’s ethical fashion program.  Maria Cornejo‘s also on board—she used fabric made of recycled cassette tapes in her pre-fall collection. All in all, this is certainly a spring trend that we can get behind. – – follow more on Bottega

Milan MENSWEAR June 2011 Collections

Edited by Antonella Ciancio, Reuters

MILAN – Fashion designers at the Milan menswear week opted for untied shirts, raffia hats and crocodile espadrilles for next summer to lighten up the wardrobes of men who dress to impress. Milan’s holiday-themed collections brought a whiff of fresh air into the fashion industry, which is undergoing an intense round of consolidation and bourse listings. Luxury groups Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo are aiming to raise as much as $2.67 billion in their initial public share offerings, or IPOs, this month. “It’s fantastic to see all these projects that are warming up the market. Investors’ interest shows that the fashion industry is growing,” Gianluca Brozzetti, Chief Executive of Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli, told Reuters. Trendsetter designer Miuccia Prada, back from a fashion show in Hong Kong for IPO investors, delivered in Milan a carefree collection inspired by golf courses, with ironic shirts in cartoon and floral prints playing with tailored suits. The fashion industry, a key contributor to Italy’s economy, is expected to generate 65 billion euros ($93 billion US) this year, according to Italy’s Chamber of Fashion, up 7% from 2010. At Ferragamo, designer Massimiliano Giornetti brought guests to the French Riviera for his laidback collection, with models in raffia panama hats and close-fitting suits in creamy colours. A scent of the Riviera also reached Ermenegildo Zegna, featuring crinkled silk jackets in muted bleached colours. ...See more Photos and Read more -- CLICK HERE
