New York Fashion Week: 8 Things Looking Forward To from Designers

©ourtesy of  graziadaily.co.uk
New York Fashion Week here, with just a few days left before normal life turns into an elbow-jabbing, style-frenzied, cocktail-heavy New York Fashion Week we can’t help but think of the exciting things to come. January has flown past us quicker than Mo Farah, but we’re ready to pack our cold-weather kit and get FROWing. There are many things to look forward – or hope for – during NYFW: we’ll even see the silver lining of the frosty situation as on streets, it does, after all, generate some impressive winter dressing. Scroll down to see the eight things we’re crossing toes and fingers and faux fur scarves for…

1: New York Fashion Week: Kim Kardashian and Kanye FRONT ROW Action.

Especially considering Yeezus is still reportedly on a mission to get KK onto the front cover of US Vogue. May the match-matchy super-stealthy outfit parade commence. Stilettos in sub-zero temperatures shall soon become the norm.

2: Manolo Blahnik and Sarah Jessica Parker’s Shoe Line Will Be Officially Revealed IN THE FLESH @ New York Fashion Week.

A shoe collaboration made in heaven, quite possibly even crafted by little fashion industry cherubs, will surely be the toast of the town. We’re talking of course about Manolo Blahnik pairing up with SJP. Although we’ve already seen the full collection pics online, this is the chance to try ‘em out for real. The actress has famously long been a fan of the designer’s stilettos since her days as Carrie in Sex and the City, so expect snaking queues of superfans when they launch in a pop up shop in Nordstrom on March 2.

PROENZA SCHOULER
The real-people-in-the-pool print on Proenza Schouler’s catwalk Wednesday night probably took some fashion insiders — who don’t expect that much newness during these previews — by surprise. The collection by Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough started off by advancing some trends seen for spring, including leather, patchwork, some perforated and mesh textures. The leather was a little shinier, the patchwork a little more random and the textures a little more exaggerated, but, still, they fell in line. The Proenza Schouler duo also offered skirt suits galore, but they weren’t trim and tailored; jackets were collarless and covered in snakeskin, and the skirts were slung low on the hips. But the digital-print satin dresses decorated with neon nailheads on the tops and grommets on the bottom that served as the finale were only as Proenza Schouler can do, and showed why they are considered one of New York’s bellwethers for fashion’s future. The Proenza Schouler styles were a little out there, but it’s where so many others will be..... Read more.

Paris fashion show hosted by Kanye West ‘ghastly’

By LIZ JONES @ Dailymail.co.uk
Paris fashion press on Tuesday got a shock from Kanye West. The fashion writers, who hailed this Fall 2012 fashion show collection as ‘much improved’ and a ‘concise statement’ probably don’t even know what astrakhan. Kanye West used furs liberally in his designs. Let me tell you about this most ghastly of ‘fabrics’. Astrakhan is the fur of an unborn lamb. Yes, a foetus. The sheep is slaughtered, and the unborn lamb is ripped from her womb, its coat still curly and unformed. (Did you also know that lambswool is most commonly taken from the backs of just slaughtered lambs? What did you think they did: used a little pink comb?)

Ghastly: Astrakhan, the ‘fabric’ used to create the vest, left, is made from the fetuses of lambs torn from their mother’s wombs. Kanye West’s gratuitous use of fur in his fashion show was likely sponsored by the U.S. fur industry, says Liz about Kanye West use of crocodile skin, and fox fur for bags, back packs and huge arm warmers all presented in the fashion show. Even his view of women fashion seems dubious and strangely out of date, given so much skin tight leather, and bondage whips presented in the fashion collection. And, while much is being made at the moment about the fact fashion models work so hard for often so little money (viz, the story that Marc Jacobs doesn’t always pay his Paris runway models, given the prestige heaped upon them for wearing his polka dot proms), I wonder why Arizona Muse, Vogue cover girl and one of the world’s best paid mannequins, feels the need to wear so much white fur to earn a another crust, which she surely doesn’t eat anyway.  Okay, so the reason the rapper used so much fur, so many fetishes, so much ‘exotic’ skin (crocodiles routinely pole-axed, take many hours to die)?
