Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid Host to Talent, LEANDRO CANO

Dramatic and eccentric, two adjectives that we hardly ever get to use when it comes to the already proven fashion designers at Madrid’s Fashion Week, but those are the words that describe the best Leandro Cano’s Haute Couture creations. Using natural materials such as wool and leather he constructed a collection that distorts the female body but somehow he managed to create an amazing theatrically feminine fashion show.  The textures Cano composed show his sense and ability of creating an astonishing couture pieces of clothes. Spain’s Emerging Fashion Designer: ‘IXONE ELZO’

©ourtesy of heART to explain

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012 fashion show in Madrid introduces Basque young designer Ixone Elzo, inspired by the wardrobes of the aristocracy.

At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid Spain, the talented Spanish Designer IXONE ELZO, presented a marvelous and excellently well structured collection, therefore making his mark in the fashion industry. Predominantly green, white and red, she created male clothes that looked like as if they were inspired from another era, but perfectly wearable and contemporary suitable. Formulated for modern and elegant men with high sense of aesthetics with small details that somehow reminded me of a re-interpretation of Harlequin’s clothes at fashion week. MB/FW Stockholm Menswear

©February 5, 2012 by Daniel Björk
The fashion circus is over for this time as you know having read Sabrina’s post from yesterday and as hectic as they are (especially if you are, as I was, reviewing some of the shows over at Bon.se and trying to get the review up within two hours) they are also great fun. In many ways Sweden’s men are the true fashionistas of Sweden, so a proper look at what was happening over the three days that go under the name of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stockholm needs to include the biggest fashion street style trends for male consumers. On the first day of the week, at Filippa K Man, designer Morgan Sundberg explained to me that the turtle neck was back. His words were to be proven true in almost every menswear show over the following days and worn in any way possible from chunky, as at Whyred and Boomerang, to thin, as at Ubi Sunt, or in between: Oscar Jacobson streetstyle. – - read more

Korean Design into New York FW

Concept Korea IV - Spring 2012

Korean fashion design has slowly made an inroad into New York, and it all started with the Concept Korea designer collectives that began four seasons ago.  Some designers from past seasons, such as Son Jung Wan and Parkchoonmoo, now have solo shows as part of the official Fall 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week schedule.  Others are veterans of other Fashion Weeks around the world, such as the duo of Steve J. and Yoni P. who showed at the London Spring 2010 collections. For its fourth edition, Concept Korea featured the following designers in a presentation style: Son Jung Wan (who also held her second New York solo runway show later in the week), Lie Sang Bong, Steve J. and Yoni P., Doho, and Resurrection by Juyoung.  Although an understandably mixed bag in terms of aesthetics and styling with five very different design sensibilities, the collective represented South Korea’s continuing evolution in the world of fashion.  Lie Sang Bong used psychedelic shimmering neon space age cuts inspired by traditional Korean fashion, with killer matching fan clutches.  Doho chose a more ethereal route, with asymmetrical layered piles of tulle and other fabrics dominating.  Juyoung presented the only men’s collection of the five, combining color with semi-formal dress shirts.  Son Jung Wan chose to exhibit some additional looks that were not a part of her solo runway show; her commercially appealing womenswear is much better suited to this presentation format than on the catwalk.  Finally, Steve J. and Yoni P. channeled the ‘70s with their capsule collection, with flower power prints and tie-dyed dresses. – - © Story By Yuan-Kwan Chan

Paris: Disco inferno! 70s Style.

Divas Chaka Kahn, Grace Jones and Gloria Gaynor take the stage at Etam’s Paris Fashion Week show

The 70s are back! Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones and Chaka Khan performed during Etam’s Paris Fashion Week show tonight.

Anyone walking into the Beaux-Arts de Paris might have assumed they had stepped back in time tonight. Though fashion house Etam was hosting their Spring/Summer 2012 show, it was the 70s-era disco queens onstage who captured the evening’s spotlight tonight. Soul divas Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones and Chaka Kahn all wore their glittery best to perform at the Paris Fashion Week show. Queen of Disco, ‘I Will Survive’ singer Gaynor, 63, still looked fabulous in a sparkling brown gown. Grace Jones looked every inch the Andy Warhol muse she was in a revealing black bodysuit, mid-calf length boots and a tuxedo jacket. Paris fashion week with Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge and the Pointer Sisters. Heat be still! Haute couture at fashion house Etam was rawkin’ last night. Hopefully New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week fashion designers will make some attempt to match this presentation with their fashion shows. The fashion industry with its street style, has arrived. 70s disco will live on. – - more on this Hot Show

Fashion Trail | Modern Mumbai

28 March, 2011 by Imran Amed, Editor

MUMBAI, India – From the minute I landed in Bombay—as everyone here still calls it—the rapidly shifting nature of contemporary India was apparent. Instead of waiting in agonisingly long queues at the airport, I breezed through immigration, customs and bag collection in only 45 minutes. That’s faster than one can make it through most terminals at Heathrow or JFK these days.
Outside the airport, cranes building a new terminal towered over those waiting with signs to pick up arriving international passengers with names like Padamsee and Singh, but also Takahashi and Levine, signs of the globalisation that is quickly transforming this city into an international melting pot.
The last time I attended a fashion week in India was five years ago, so when IMG kindly invited me to attend this season’s Lakmé Fashion Week, I was curious to see how things had changed. With GDP growth racing along at a blistering 8 percent per year, and a growing sense of national pride, there were bound to be changes in India’s fashion business landscape as well.
