Nicki Minaj wearing a palm tree

The biggest news this week other than the Eurozone crisis and the Greek economy has been the launch of the Versace range of clothing in the H&M stores. The launch happened in New York with performances from Prince and Nicki Minaj who appeared to be wearing a palm tree on her head (because the collection had a palm tree theme). Versace for H&M Collection!

Says Donatella Versace of the collection; ‘The collection for H&M is the essence of Versace. For the collaboration we’ve brought back from the archives, as well as from more recent collections, some of the icons of Versace, such as the bright prints, the Greek key and daring cuts. I can’t wait to see how H&M’s wide audience will make these pieces their own.’ A key theme to the collection are prints, shapes and styles inspired by their rich archive. Or, as H&M put it; ‘it’s full of the pieces that have made the house of Versace legendary’ There are enough sassy little dresses to keep the most dedicated of ravers going through the party season, as well as more than a few nifty separates to mix and match with. We’ve spotted some palm print trews that we think would go nicely with a number of our tops and shoes as well as a studded biker jacket, embellished miniskirts and a printed corset.

To help water-proof our theory, here’s Anna Wintour in a bottle green snakeskin mac, making her way to the Burberry show at London Fashion Week. It’s all the rage this autumn. Chloe provided everything a girl could wish for in snakeskin – from floaty, snakeskin printed chiffon maxidresses to slinky rock n roll snakeskin blouses. Then, chez Gucci, snakeskin came in rich jewel colours, mainly in the form of outerwear like belted trenches and bikers. Then there was the super-feminine collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli at Valentino which was complemented by coloured python handbags and snakey knee-length boots.
