Coco CHANEL Best Quotes

Endlessly Quotable Chanel

Coco Chanel once said, “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself,” adding, after a beat, “Aloud.” The legendary fashion designer did exactly that for most of her life, which meant that she became not only one of the world’s strongest forces in fashion, but also one of its most quoted citizens. In honor of CHANEL Aug. 19 birthday, here’s a look back at our favorite of Coco’s many declarations.

History About designer CHANEL from Wikipedia: Gabrielle “Coco” Bonheur Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971) was a French fashion designer and founder of the Chanel brand. She was the only fashion designer to be named on Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century. Along with Paul Poiret, Chanel is credited with liberating women from the constraints of the corseted silhouette and popularizing the acceptance of a sportive, casual chic as the feminine standard in the post-World War I era. A prolific fashion creator, Chanel’s influence Continue reading

New York 2012/2013 Fashion Week: The Winter Collection by New York based designer, Marc Jacobs was really … Crazy! It was like 18-17th century fashion mixed with 21st century street style! This fashion week show hosted lots of colors, interesting patterns and some funny looking heels. And the best of all were the too big sized hats made out of fur or other materials. It is worth to mention that the coats that are presented will be the most hottest pieces for winter. Bohemian story through the New York designer Marc Jacobs, who presented his latest collection autumn / winter 2012-2013 in the last Fashion Week in New York.

Cornejo, New York Designer for ‘Zero’ talks fashion

© Story by Merle Ginsberg at hollywoodreporter.com

Designer Maria Cornejo host New Show With Artist Alice Waese and Wearing Her Own Designs as she was in Los Angeles to launch an art show and dĆ©but her resort and pre-fall collections.

Maria Cornejo Designs - H 2012

THR Q&A: Zero’s Maria Cornejo is one line of clothes out of New York that is an insiders’ fashion brand, and her New York fashion week runway shows always prove that, as they are attended by editors at the highest levels of the fashion business. Her clothes are always comfortable and chic, go from day to  with a quick change of shoes or jewelry and  have an avant-garde city cool-girl edge that’s sophisticated without hitting that “arty” line too hard. In other words, they’re rather perfect. Her pants, sweaters and leather jackets have amazing fit and a little twis,- and her dresses achieve the impossible trifecta: They’re sexy and comfortable and interesting. All this, and her prices are much better than most designer clothes, but the quality doesn’t suffer. No wonder smart women love her. Cornejo has a longtime small West Village boutique at Greenwich and Jane, but her eponymous Melrose Place space is many times the size and has the airy feeling of an art gallery. That’s why she decided to host a small art gathering for her friend, former employee and present artist Alice Waese, from New York City, who creates art out of metal, silver and paper. Cornejo doesn’t get to L.A. often as she’s busy Continue reading

Fashion Illustration: 1930′s Ads

Special Vintage Drawings

Fashion Illustrations in 1930′s Ads
Fashion illustration from the 1930′s enjoyed by many of our readers have an affinity to  for artists like  L. FellowsLeslie Saalburg, and J. C. Leyendecker. While we mostly discuss editorial pictures, I want to focus on fashion illustration from magazine ads today. Back in the day, it was normal for a publisher to design an ads together with the advertiser. Though as you can imagine, a magazine publisher could only employ a limited number of fashion illustrators to serve all their clients. In order to demonstrate each brand’s unique image, the fashion illustration were often very different from each other.

Interestingly, ads from the early 1930′s have a stronger resemblance of the 1920′s illustrations ads, which were more simplistic and relied more heavily on lines than details. Nevertheless, even during that time period, there were huge differences in drawing styles, and soon you would see illustrated ads that were just as nice as the illustration you all enjoy so much. Now, let’s discuss a few ads and styles: Continue reading

Toronto runway highlights and trends at World MasterCard Fashion Week as well as “renegade” fashion shows that happened in March. (QMI AGENCY) The makeup and hair looks throughout Toronto Fashion Week ran the gamut from edgy and goth-inspired to minimal and androgynous to soft and sweet. Despite the variety, there were definite trends established amongst the gallery of shows.  While World MasterCard Fashion Week descended on Toronto, Business Review Canada has decided to take a look at the Canadian haute couture clothing companies that bring high fashion to the masses and even surprising styles of clothing such as jackets or yoga pants were some of the  featured new elements at the fashion shows. Vancouver Fashion Week Various venues While still a lower-key event than Toronto’s, Vancouver Fashion Week’s glam factor is on the rise, with a gala at the Opus Hotel, and runway shows at the Chinese Cultural Center showcasing collections  – - View Gallery of Photos from Toronto shows.

Fall 2012 London Fashion Week stand-out couture line

Spijkers en Spijkers womens fall fashion collection looks back at the eccentric but sheltered Edie Bovier Beale. The twin fashion designers chose ‘Birds of Paradise’ as their title and inspiration: a phrase the Dutch use to describe eccentric and colorful people. They used socialite Edie Bovier Beale, a true bird of paradise, as their London muse.
Colorful fall embroidered exotic fashion birds adorned (or should I say perched upon) jackets, fashion dresses and shirts. The color palette featured: Ceylon yellow, Bordeaux, lime green, mulberry purple and burnt orange with flashes of black and night shadow blue.
London fashion style was the early 1940s, haute couture luxurious fabrics of silk dupion, silk satin, crepe de chine, silk wool blends and printed silk wool maple. Although the Read more…

Fashion Week “delivers”

Toronto Fashion Week: Joe Fresh delivers a slinky sixties sex kitten vibe: Before the big names light up David Pecaut Square at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week later this week, it’s time for the new names to shine. Day 2 in Toronto was filled with strong fashion showings from the country’s most promising young up-starts, where labels from Toronto’s sister act Chloe Comme Parris and Montreal duo Martin Lim, among others, commanded the runway with their Toronto fall 2012 fashion week collections ‘Ain’t nobody dope as me, I’m just so fresh and so clean’ – so sang Atlanta hip-hoppers Outkast on a record spun by a rather exuberant DJ before the packed Joe Fresh fashion show on Wednesday evening. Its buzz grows every season, so Joe Mimran’s line of grocery-store couture clothing line had a lot to live up to. Luckily, the fashion week show, spurred by a slinky sixties sex kitten vibe, delivered something, yes, fresh in Toronto this time. – - ©ourtesy of Tiyana grulovic @ theglobeandmail.com

Fashion Gallery weekend show for LAFW Styles

©ourtesy of Natalie Alcala @ La.Racked.com

LA this past weekend, knocked out five of our 15 best LAFW events by attending Concept Fashion Week show at Ace Gallery. The two-day LA show was filled with experimental installations and runway shows that catered to the city’s sartorial game-changers, which made both the featured looks and invited guests equally entertaining to watch. The LA Chambers show kicked it all off on Friday night with their signature streetwear-meets-grunge menswear offerings. Just like our takeaway from their Gen Art show last year, we’re happy to report that the fashion brand is still doing an ace job in LA providing the average dude with foolproof options for everyday layering. Outerwear fashion was abundant and better than ever. Saturday’s line-up started with the Gypsy Junkies show, which had this ’90s boho thing going on. Think floral separates and ethereal gowns mixed with crushed velvet and corduroy pants. Next, we watched a flurry of inventive silhouettes march down the Laili Lau runway, complete with loosely draped dresses, lightweight fashion knits and harem pants that we wouldn’t mind mixing and matching this fall. Fittingly, we ended our Concept LA trip with two highly conceptual installations: Belle N. Matisse and Curly-V. BNM’s collection took the idea of strong shoulders to the next level by presenting a range of avant-garde looks that featured pointy shoulder pads. We likened the gray numbers to futuristic officewear. There was also a pair of pants with pointed knee caps and a sheer shirt with wings. Curly-V’s fashion display was by far the quirkiest of the bunch and felt like we stepped into a trippy ’60s film. Titled “Big Mouff,” the collection took a literal approach to the “tooth” in “houndstooth” by using teeth to form the iconic print. Jeremy Scott would approve this LA beat.

Fatima Lopes kicks off Paris Fall 2012 Fashion Week

By THOMAS ADAMSON Associated Press ©Mercury News

PARIS fashion designer, Fatima Lopes kicked off Paris 2012 fall-winter ready-to-wear season Tuesday with blood reds, provocative leathers and fox fur at the Hotel des Invalides war museum. The Portuguese designer channeled human morphology with blood-red dress inserts, shredded leather sleeves and prints of the venous system in the iconic monument that was built for generals wounded in French imperial wars. Bucking the current trend for padding, the Lopes woman in geometric sheaths had narrow shoulders a look that would have accentuated the frailty of the tiny-boned models had it not been for the provocative leathers in patent black and nude. “Yes, I make tiny shoulders and waists. But this is not weak. It’s feminine and sexy, therefore strong,” said the designer backstage, wearing one of her figure-hugging creations. And sexy was the overriding mood, with bias-cut sheaths split revealingly up the leg and exposing the shoulders. In another sensual look with a plunging decollete, voluminous brown fox fur sleeves contrasted with tight patent leather lapels and a second-skin micro skirt. When the show ended, the crowd departed sheepishly through the courtyard, with 40 huge canons pointing straight at them. – - see Gallery  : NOTE: International Icons reign supreme at this Paris Read more
